Privacy Policy

Sketchwise has no sign-up, so we never learn your name or email. This page explains what the app and this website do collect, who helps us handle it, and what you can delete.

Last updated

The short version

  • No account. The app signs you in anonymously. We never ask for your name, email address or password.
  • Photos go to AI. The photos you pick or take, and your drawing attempts, are sent to our servers and to AI providers so they can build your lesson and score your attempt.
  • Sharing is optional and public. A drawing you share to Community, with the name you choose, can be seen by anyone with the link until you delete it or 90 days pass.
  • No ads, no selling. We don’t show ads, sell your data, or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
  • You can delete. Remove your shared drawings and public name in the app at any time. For anything else, write to us.

Who we are

Sketchwise (“we”, “us”) makes the Sketchwise drawing-lesson app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and this website, sketchwise.app. This policy covers both.

Questions about it go to mg.app.software@gmail.com.

What we collect

This is everything the app and website collect or keep, and why.

Photos and drawings

A reference photo you pick or take to start a lesson, and photos of your drawing attempts that you submit for feedback.

We ask for camera and photo library access only when you use those features, and you can take it back in your device settings. Result cards are saved to your photo library only when you tap save.

An anonymous app ID

The app signs you in with Firebase Anonymous Authentication, which creates a random ID. It holds no name, email address or phone number. We use it to apply usage allowances, to link a subscription to this installation, and to keep Community pseudonymous.

Request and usage records

For each lesson request we keep a record: what kind of request it was, when it ran, whether it worked, the result we generated, and what it counted against your allowance. These are tied to your anonymous app ID.

Subscription status

Purchases go through the App Store or Google Play. We never see your card or your Apple or Google account details. RevenueCat, our subscription provider, tells us whether your anonymous app ID has an active subscription.

Analytics and crash reports

Firebase Analytics receives coarse events such as which lesson step you reached, never your photos or anything you type. Firebase Crashlytics receives crash and error reports with your device model, operating system and app version. Firebase App Check confirms that requests come from a genuine copy of the app.

Your Community profile

Only if you join: the public name you choose, the drawings you share and their captions, the lesson subject, level and style, an optional score badge, the reactions you give, the people you block, and the reports you file. These sit under a pseudonymous author ID derived from your app ID, not under the app ID itself.

On your device only

Your lessons, step images, profile photo and settings are stored on your device. Practice reminders are scheduled by your device; we don’t collect a push notification token for them.

This website

sketchwise.app sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. Our host, Netlify, processes standard server logs such as your IP address in order to deliver pages. A page for a shared drawing loads that drawing from our servers.

Photos and AI processing

Your photos are processed by AI providers. When you start a lesson or submit an attempt, the photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our servers, which pass it to AI models that create guide images, assess your drawing and write feedback. By using those features you agree to this.

The models come from OpenAI and Google and run on Replicate. We also use an AI model to check shared drawings against the community rules. The providers receive your photo only to process that request, and each handles it under its own terms and privacy policy.

We don’t use your photos or drawings to train AI models. If you would rather not send a photo, don’t pick or take one in the app.

If you share a drawing

Sharing is always your choice. You decide, drawing by drawing, in the app.

What becomes public

The picture you share, your public name, a caption if you add one, the lesson subject, level and style, an optional score badge, and how many reactions it has. Your app ID and any contact detail stay private.

Where it appears

In the Community tab for other people using the app, and on a share page at sketchwise.app/p/… that anyone with the link can open. Drawings that reach the public wall can also appear in the gallery on this website, and search engines may index them. Drawings shared by link only are kept out of search results.

How we screen it

An automated AI model checks each shared drawing against the rules before it reaches the wall, and holds anything it is unsure about for review. When 3 different people report a drawing, it also comes off the wall until we have looked at it. You can share up to 5 drawings in any 24 hours, and each one disappears on its own after 90 days.

Deleting what you shared

Delete a single drawing in the app, or choose “Delete my posts and name” in your Community profile to remove all your drawings, your reactions, your blocks and your public name at once. The pictures are deleted from our storage. A small record that keeps the daily post limit honest is kept for up to 24 hours.

Reports you filed, or that were filed about you, are not removed with your drawings. They hold only a reason, an optional note and pseudonymous IDs, and we keep them to protect other people from repeat abuse.

Anyone who saw a drawing may have saved a copy, and search engines can take a while to update. We can’t take back copies we don’t control.

How we use it

  • Create the lessons, scores and feedback you ask for.
  • Count usage against free allowances and subscriptions, and prevent abuse and fraud.
  • Run Community: show drawings, handle reactions, blocks and reports, and moderate.
  • Keep the app working: diagnose crashes, fix errors and see which lessons help.
  • Reply when you write to us.

We don’t sell your data or use it for advertising. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on providing the service you asked for (lessons and subscriptions), on your consent (camera, photos and sharing to Community), and on our legitimate interests in security, preventing abuse and keeping the app stable.

Who handles your data

We share data with these services, only for the purposes described here.

Google Firebase

Anonymous sign-in, database, file storage, the servers that run lesson requests, analytics, crash reports and app attestation. Firebase privacy

Replicate, OpenAI and Google AI models

Run the models that create lessons, assess drawings and screen shared pictures. Replicate, OpenAI, Google

RevenueCat

Tells us whether a subscription is active. RevenueCat privacy

Apple and Google Play

Take payment and manage subscriptions under their own terms.

Netlify

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.

How long we keep it

Photos sent for a lesson

Held in temporary storage while the request is processed, then deleted from our storage.

Results and request records

Up to 24 months, then deleted. This includes the usage records and server logs described above.

Shared drawings

Until you delete them, or 90 days after you shared them, whichever comes first.

Public name and profile

Until you delete them.

Reports

Kept so we can review them and spot repeat abuse.

Analytics and crash reports

Kept by Firebase for a limited period set in our project.

Your choices and rights

  • Shared drawings and name: delete them in the app, as described above.
  • Camera and photos: allow or withdraw access in your device settings.
  • Reminders: switch them off in the app or in your device settings.
  • On-device data: deleting the app removes what is stored on your device. It does not remove records we hold on our servers.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how we use it, and to complain to your data protection authority.

Because there is no sign-up, we can’t find your records from a name or an email address. Write to us and we will tell you what we can find and verify as yours, and delete it on request.

Children

Sketchwise is not meant for children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 16 has used the app, write to us and we will delete what we can find.

Security and where data goes

Connections to our servers are encrypted, requests are checked with Firebase App Check, and shared drawings sit at long random addresses. Anyone who has a share link can open it, though, and no system is perfectly secure.

Our providers run servers in the United States and other countries, so your data may be processed outside the country where you live. By using Sketchwise you accept that.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. For material changes we will also tell you in the app or on this page before they take effect.
